Welcome to Yoga-For-Love.com

We are a group of yoga teachers who have pledged to support The Cambeboo Hospice in the Eastern Cape South Africa. As the Aids victims who have been looked after by the Hospice have died they have left behind them a legacy of orphans who are now struggling without parents or carers to take care of them. There is a similar story all over Africa but in the Camdeboo (part of the Great Karoo), in the small town of Graaff Reinet where one of the yoga teachers lives she found a group of children living, abandoned and orphaned, on a rubbish dump.

Disturbed by this state of affairs she began to work with the local Hospice to try to help the children live a better life. The question was – what is a better life and where to start?

The children are starving so the biggest priority is to get them food. After that we have to think about shelter, love and learning. Some are very very vulnerable as they have no-one – not one single person – to be responsible for them and they may also have been born HIV positive.

The Hospice has started up a fostering programme which is explained on the presentation you will find if you click here. However for many other children – many more than the children who have found a way to survive by living at the rubbish dump – they have an old old granny or a very sick mother and no way of having regular food and they desperately need help. Currently there are over 200 children that the hospice are trying to take care of on very limited funds.

Yoga-For-love was born one night as two people in a very beautiful location in Canada talked about the children and wanted to reach out and make some kind of transformation happen. The children did not ask to be born into these circumstances and we believe that have the right to love, care, protection and food.
One of the most moving things in the world is to be with these children and find that they want love and play just as much they want something to eat – even when they have walked 5 kilometres to get to the meeting place for the hospice group and are fainting with hunger and have terrible stomach pains. Their skin is coated with dust and their clothes are threadbare and usually too big for them because they are just wearing a torn old adult t-shirt. But sit down on the ground with them and the universal language of play, laughter and holding turns them into giggling little beings whose smiles light up the world.

Yoga For Love asks yoga practitioners to donate the proceeds from one class, or 10 classes! or from one student or 10!  to the Camdeboo Children so that we can collect enough money to buy and run a Bakkie (van). This will cost about 100,000R/14000 CAD and with it we can create a breakfast club and take specially prepared porrige out to the districts so that the children don’t have to walk into town once a week.

Unicef have a formula for mealie (maize)porridge, soya flour and sugar which is enough for a child to actually survive on – just a cup of this a day means they can GROW! Getting this to them regularly would be the next part of our plan once we have the van.

To feed one child /YEAR costs = 55 CAD
To buy one school uniform/child which means they can be educated costs 500R + 72.50 CAD, £41.50, $67.70

‘Tis the Season to unite. Let us unify our body, mind, and spirit through yoga, while bringing love, food, and hope to the vulnerable children living on dumpsites on the Eastern Cape of South Africa.

All Donations Raised on December 19th will go to The Camdeboo Hospice on the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The hospice cares for AIDS victims and as these victims die, they leave behind a legacy of AIDS orphans. As these orphans have no one, no home or money, they are forced to live on local dump sites. As a reult, the hospice has started a foster program to feed these very vulnerable AIDS orphans.
It only takes $45 per year to feed one child, class by donation.

Let us bring our community together at Emerald Lotus Yoga for a very special yoga class to raise consciousness and money to feed these beautiful children…because we can.
